Samsung Galaxy S8 Dominates Market In Less Than A Month

It’s safe to say that the Samsung Galaxy has been one of, if not the, most popular Android smartphones on the market for the last few years. Like so many others, it took a cue from Apple, working to iterate on the devices every year, and given how well the S8 and S8 Plus have sold, Samsung isn’t showing signs of slowing down.

Millions On Millions
The Investor has reported that in less than a month, sales of the S8 and S8 Plus have crossed over 5 million units worldwide.

“Although we cannot provide detailed figures, the sales are going smoothly around the globe. The combined sales already are beyond 5 million units,” a Samsung representative told the website.

Samsung’s newest phones were released on April 21 in the United States, Canada, and Korea, and have slowly been rolled out to more territories, primarily in Europe. By the end of May, the phone will be widely available in nearly 120 countries worldwide, most notably China.

Given the rate at which the phones have sold in just a few major markets, it is believed that Samsung’s sales could cross over 50 million units by the end of the company’s financial year.

Cornering The Market
As mentioned, Samsung has had the Android market cornered for the last few years, slowly becoming the dominant force in a fairly crowded market that includes the likes of HTC and LG, to name a couple.

This also reinforces that Samsung has been the primary competition to Apple and the iPhone for the last several years. The launch of the iPhone 7 back in September 2016 to, let’s say, mixed response at best, set the table for Samsung to strike with its newest phone, and boy did it.

However, it does bear noting that, while China is a major market, it isn’t believed that it will have a major impact on global sales. This is in part due to a declining market presence for Samsung in China, despite appointing a new marketing head for the Chinese market earlier this month.

It will be interesting to watch if this new appointment will have a positive effect on sales after the S8’s release in China or if it continues to see a slow decline in the country.

While not necessarily a major blow, given the sales numbers, it would be interesting to see just how much more dominant Samsung would be if it saw a sudden boom in the Chinese market with the S8 line. Source: techtimes
