Barcelona were unceremoniously dumped out of the Champions League on Wednesday night by a resolute Juventus team. Having done the damage with their 3-0 first-leg victory in Turin, Juventus ground out a 0-0 draw to advance to the semi-finals.
Lionel Messi was unable to inspire his team to a PSG-esque comeback as Barcelona drew blanks in both legs against the Italians’ formidable defensive unit.
And towards the end of the first half in Barcelona there was a moment which perfectly captured the frustration of Luis Enrique’s team on the night – as their comeback attempt fell decidedly flat.
Messi leaped to meet a header on the half-way line but was leant in to by Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic while airborne. The Argentine was knocked off balance and despite attempting to reach out and break his fall ended up crashing to the ground face first.
