Occupying Hall 1 of the Dewan Tun Razak, Putra World Trade Center, Indonesian representatives made a statement with a Phinisi boat-themed booth at the Malaysia International Dive Expo (MIDE) 2017 that ran on May 12-14.

At the event, the Tourism Ministry presented 20 industries related to marine tourism and 11 more that were promoting outside the official booth of Indonesia.

“Thank you, Indonesia, a number of industries are being presented […] at this event, so let’s give them a big round of applause,” said YB Datuk Mas Ermieyati Binti Samsudin, Malaysia’s deputy minister of Tourism and Culture, during her official speech.

The first day of MIDE 2017 garnered Rp 2.23 billion (US$ 167,455) in potential transactions from 232 visitors, and Rp 64.56 million in actual transactions from 17 visitors – most of whom chose Aceh, Manado in North Sulawesi and Bali for their destinations.

Three Indonesian holiday spots currently serve as transit locations for main diving destinations, namely Manado, Bali and Makassar in South Sulawesi, said Cipto Aji Gunawan, head of the underwater tourism acceleration program.

From the airport in Makassar, travelers can fly directly to Raja Ampat, West Papua; Ambon in Maluku; and Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi.

From Bali, they can go to Labuan Baju and Alor in East Nusa Tenggara. From Manado, they can travel to Raja Ampat, Gorontalo and Lembeh, North Sulawesi. Source: thejakartapost.com
