Debuted at the 2017 New York Auto Show, the next-generation 2018 Infiniti QX80 previews a brand new look that will start production by the end of this year. However, it will keep the current architecture and powertrain, according to the company’s president.
Infiniti’s largest SUV will have the same architecture as the current model. It will ride on the same chassis from 2011 and will be powered by the same 5.6-liter V8 engine that produces 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque.
“The 2018 Infiniti QX80 is a very successful car,” said Krueger, “And very successful architecture fits right into the market. When you look at powertrain, capacity for seven seats, it fits right in.”
In addition, the engine will be mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox and has a towing capacity of 8,500 pounds. Features such as a self-leveling rear suspension and a multiline independent rear suspension will also come standard, together with an optional body motion control system.
Automakers always utilize a new generation of a vehicle to revise the underpinnings to improve dynamics or create other structural changes, but big SUVs apparently have longer life cycle compared to smaller crossovers, which are in a more competitive segment. Krueger stated that the change was not necessary for the new QX80. The last time that the QX80 got a facelift was way back in 2014, and this new update will carry over a lot of designs cues from the Monograph concept both interior and exterior.
Furthermore, along with the new QX80, Krueger announced that a new range of Infiniti products is currently in the works. The most significant will be in the form of an electric sports car, and some hybrid options down the line, and an all-new QX50 that was already caught testing.
Everyone is already excited about the 2018 Infiniti QX80’s new look. With its new exterior and a futuristic cabin, every car enthusiasts will surely be surprised. The automaker said that they would be keeping the new model pretty old school when it debuts towards the end of 2017. Source: autoworldnews
